When the Phone Stops Ringing

How to Serve Pro Bono Clients While Building a Profitable Coaching Business

A career management professional since 1986, Meg Montford launched her career coaching firm, Abilities Enhanced(R), in 1999. She has graduated from both Career Coach Institute and Corporate Coach University where she not only learned HOW to coach, but to BE a coach. With a diverse background in coaching, recruiting, and business development, it only made sense to her to choose career coaching as her coaching niche and to target a population she truly enjoys: sales and marketing professionals.

A past client commented:

"Laid off from my IT job, the future looked dark and hopeless," said A.G., 38, a 15-year U.S. citizen originally from Iran. "But this time around I didn’t want just a paycheck; I wanted a future. I had to reach deep inside me and become a child with dreams and hopes for myself. That was difficult. But you stayed by my side. My fears were so real until I'd get on the phone with you, and then I would feel as if I could do anything! You coached me to be on top of my game! Getting into Pharmaceutical Sales was, and always will be, very challenging. But thanks to you, I work for the world's #1 pharma company. I love my job, and everyday I think of what we've gone through to get me here."

In addition to coaching her clients, since 2002 Meg has taught marketing to coaches as an instructor for Career Coach Institute. She is a licensee of the marketing self-study program, "How to Build a 6-Figure Coaching Practice," created by Marcia Bench, Master Certified Career Coach. Teaching this common sense marketing program through teleclasses and mentor coaching, Meg supports independent coaches and consultants who are frustrated with their marketing efforts and helps them discover how to build the businesses of their dreams. Details on her program are available at www.abilitiesenhanced.com/coach_cafe.com. Here's the buzz from a couple of past participants:

"This class is a must for those building and growing a coaching business. It's essential to have a solid foundation in marketing fundamentals. Add to that the experience and enthusiasm of Meg Montford, and you'll not only learn a lot, but you'll enjoy yourself. Meg brings encouragement, support, and a thought-provoking style to her instruction." - Andrew Sequeira, Coach.

"Meg’s pragmatic, yet sensitive, coach approach to my special marketing needs and goals is greatly appreciated. Often, I bring her fragmented ideas and she pulls them together seamlessly. Or, I express short-range ideas, and she helps extend my vision. Meg has helped grow my revenue by thousands of dollars!" - Jacqui Barrett, Master Resume Writer.

When she isn't coaching or training coaches, Meg chairs the Technology Committees on her local chapter and USA Boards of the International Association of Career Management Professionals. She also serves on the International Marketing / PR Action Team with members from Spain, Canada, and United Kingdom. Her additional professional affiliations include the International Coach Federation, Institute of Career Certification International, Career Masters Institute, and ACCPOW.

Meg is a Master Certified Career Coach, Career Management Fellow, and Certified TeleLeader. She holds a BA in Sociology. She has contributed to 10 nationally published books. She delivers professional presentations and has been quoted often by the media. Monster.com chose her as the Career Coach for an executive sweepstakes winner in 2001.

"Believe in yourself and everything is possible!" is how Meg lives her life, grows her career, coaches her clients, and teaches others. She is married to a man who is also a solopreneur. She has two healthy, happy, self-sufficient adult sons who remind her that "life is good."
